It's important to create a positive and supportive environment in schools where students feel valued and motivated. By incorporating lessons on behavioural expectations and fostering a sense of pride in being part of the Victoria Road community, we can help students understand the significance of respect, kindness, and collaboration.

Victoria Road has a clear policy for addressing bullying and supporting children. The key points are:

  1. Clear Guidelines: The school has a well-defined policy called "Behaviour for Learning and Conduct" which outlines the expectations of behaviour and provides support to children.
  2. Support System: The school works with various agencies, including the Local Authority, to support children with complex needs.
  3. Support Staff: The school has a team of staff who can support children and parents in cases of bullying, including:
    • Alice Hawksley, Inclusion Manager
    • Sue Vincent, Family Liaison Officer (FLO)
    • Jill Evans, Assistant Headteacher
    • Kelly Collens or Zana Fletcher, Co-Headteachers
  4. Tips for Parents:
    1. Listen and Empathise: Listen to your child without getting angry or upset and encourage them to talk about the issue.
    2. Reassure and Support: Reassure your child that it's not their fault and offer support.
    3. Don't Dismiss the Experience: Avoid telling your child to ignore the bullying or to "sort it out themselves."
    4. Recognise Your Feelings: Be aware of your own emotions and try not to let them interfere with your ability to help your child.
  5. Getting Support from School:
    1. Prepare Information: Before visiting the school, make a list of the facts surrounding the incident.
    2. Schedule an Appointment: Make an appointment with the class teacher or support staff before visiting the school.
    3. Collaborate and Stay Patient: Work with the school to find a solution and be patient while they investigate and deal with the situation.
    4. Follow Up: Arrange a follow-up meeting to check on the progress of the situation.
