Reception Baseline Assessment
The Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) is a nationwide, short, one-to-one assessment designed to help us understand your child's early literacy, communication, and mathematics skills. Conducted within the first six weeks of your child joining reception, this assessment allows us to capture a snapshot of your child's starting points in these key areas.
The assessment consists of practical tasks that involve oral responses, pointing, and ordering or moving objects. It's important to note that there's no need to prepare your child for this assessment, as it is designed to be a natural part of their learning experience. The RBA is not a test, and there is no pass mark. Instead, the results will provide us with valuable insights to inform teaching within the first term.
The assessments will be administered by our trained reception teacher or teaching assistants who are familiar with your child, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment.

If you have any further questions, please speak to Mrs Holloway, the class teacher, or alternatively contact the school office, where we will be happy to assist you.
